5-1-6. Prerequisites: Admission into the program; RN with at least one year clinical experience This course is designated to provide the registered nurse with core knowledge for providing clinically competent care to the patient with cancer and his/her family. The curriculum will include cancer prevention, screening, treatment, palliative and end-of-life care. The CCNN will receive instruction in cancer patient education, advocacy, resource utilization and support throughout the cancer care trajectory. A holistic approach will be used to assist the student to teach the patient and family how to navigate for quality cancer care and services throughout the continuum; to address spiritual, psychological and emotional support needs brought on by the diagnosis of cancer; serve as the navigator for home health and hospice care; and work with Medicare, Medicaid and other payers to meet the financial obligations arising during cancer care.
