(Through Fall 2008; becomes Nursing: Vocational 403 in Spring 2009) Class hours: 48-54 lecture. Limitation on Enrollment: Acceptance into the Vocational Nursing (VN) program. Corequisite: Nursing: Vocational 402L. Fundamental principles and techniques necessary for the beginning vocational nursing student to provide basic nursing care to patients. Leadership focus on the VN role, responsibilities, and skills in extended-care clinical and home settings. Students select and use appropriate components of the nursing process and Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs to promote health, hygiene, nutrition, rest/sleep, safety, relief of pain, and meet the mobility, bowel/bladder, respiratory, sexual, spiritual, psychosocial, and self-esteem needs of adult and geriatric patients. Study of loss/grief concepts, health and disease, stress adaptation, and therapeutic communication styles is included. 1230.20
