3 units; 3 hours Lecture Recommended Preparation: Eligibilityfor ENG 100 and READ 100. Examines contemporary social, cultural, economic, political, and environmental change in a global context. Focuses on the emergence of global economy; the globalization of culture; transnational migrations; technological and environmental changes; and global social movements. Explores debates over globalization and the sometimes violent political, ethnic and religious responses to what is perceived as cultural and economic homogenization on a global scale. Offered as both ANTHR 9 AND SOC 9. Student may enroll in either course for credit, but not both. Transfer Credit: Transfers to CSU. Transfers to UC.
