1-3 units; 1 hour Lecture Repeatability: May be taken a total of 2 times. Recommended Preparation: ECE 31 or ECE 131; ECE 53; eligibility for ENGL 100 and READ 100, when taught in English, or concurrent enrollment in ESL 201A or ESL 220A or higher ESL level, when taught in Spanish. Presents practical ways for teachers and parents to support the language development of young children in bilingual or multilingual settings through curriculum development and authentic assessment. Focuses on similarities and differences between first and second language acquisition; the relationship of language development to beginning literacy; and on the impact of partnerships between school and family on children's language development and sense of self. May be offered in Distance- Learning Format and/or in a Bilingual Spanish/English Format.
