1-3 units; 1 hour Lecture Recommended Preparation: Eligibility for ENGL 100 and READ 100 when taught in English, or concurrent enrollment in ESL 201A or ESL 220A or higher ESL level when taught in Spanish. Explores effective approaches to communication and problem solving with 6- to 12-year-olds that build competence, encourage cooperation, and establish age appropriate limits. Appropriate for after-school caregivers, parents, foster parents, and family childcare providers. May also be taught in Spanish as part of the Bilingual Spanish/English ECE teacher skills certificate. May be offered in a Distance-Learning Format. May be used for the California Child Development School-Age Emphasis Permit.
