14 units (96 hours lecture, 384 hours clinic) Limitation on Enrollment: Formal admission to ADN Program. Prerequisite: Completion of NS 201, NS 202 and NS 203. This course is based on Orem's Self- Care Theory as applied to the care of adults and geriatric patients with health deviation self-care requisites. This course provides theory and related clinical practice to develop an understanding of the pathophysiology of these health deviations. The concept that patients should be involved to the extent permitted by their self-care agency in the decisions and activities related to health maintenance, restoration, and/or prevention of complications is presented. Leadership, management skills and community health are presented and practiced in order to prepare students to select appropriate nursing systems to care for groups of patients. Professional issues such as ethics and values, law, the Nurse Practice Act, etc., are incorporated during the course. (CSU, AVC)
