3 units 54 hours total Limitation on Enrollment: Must be a Certified Nurse Aide. Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 099, READ 099 and MATH 070. This theory course is designed to provide basic information needed to provide drug therapy that is safe and effective for individuals with a wide variety of medical-surgical conditions. It is primarily for the nurse aide who seeks Vocational Nurse licensure through work experience and examination. Essential principles of pharmacology and pathophysiology are presented and correlated with specific nursing actions. This course includes principles of administration of medications, computation of dosages and preparation of medications. Emphasis is placed on knowledge of commonly used medications in health care and safety factors in administration of medications. (AVC)
