3 units 3 hours weekly Prerequisite: Completion of ENGL 101. This course offers an examination of literature by and about women from various cultures, ethnicities, and backgrounds. The course's primary focus is on the various roles and images women have been assigned to play in both literature and in society. The course will also examine the evolution of what has been called "women's writing.?hrough close analysis of the various genres-short stories, poems, plays, essays, and journals-students will explore and discuss the positive images and negative stereotypes of women as they are portrayed in literary works, reflected in society, and defined in theory and practice.
