3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 099 and READ 099. This course is designed to give the student an understanding of the juvenile justice system. Emphasis will be placed on basic organization, function, and jurisdiction of the various juvenile related law enforcement agencies. The study of the processing and detention of juveniles, their court procedures, dispositions, and juvenile diversion will be examined. The development of an understanding of juvenile delinquency will be explored while gaining insight into the numerous rules of evidence, basic criminal laws, and the tactics used in dealing with juvenile offenders.
