3 units 3 hours weekly A general survey of the origins and development of Native American culture in North America. Emphasis is placed on understanding the complex cultural processes which combined over thousands of years of cultural development to produce the rich and diverse cultural systems encountered by Europeans beginning in the fifteenth century. Emphasis is also placed on understanding the nature of Native American/European contact and the impact of that contact on both Native American and European culture. (CSU, UC, AVC)
