An introductory course covering the fundamentals of materials and materials processing. The first part of this course will cover physical and mechanical properties, equilibrium diagrams, heat treatment, ferrous and nonferrous metals and nonmetallic materials. The topics in processing that will be covered are: casting, powdered metals, hot and cold working, polymers, ceramics, composites and joining methods. Prerequisite: high school chemistry or equivalent.
