4 Credits The objective of this course is to survey the development of the western world from the Enlightenment to the present. Emphasis will be on the political, social, economic and intellectual development of Western Europe, although other regions will also be explored. Specific themes include: revolution, industrialization, the development of modern political thought and the emergence of class. Other topics to be covered in depth include: Nationalism, Imperialism, World War I, World War II and the Holocaust.
