General Education: AA/AS Area I; CSU Area C Course Transferable to CSU Hours: 54 hours LEC This course is a survey of the best literature, past and present, created for children, and of the criteria for selecting, evaluating, and discussing children's literature. It includes discussion of the history of children's literature and of current issues such as censorship, literacy, and multicultural diversity. The course is intended for prospective teachers, preschool teachers, early childhood education (ECE) majors, parents, and anyone who is or will be in frequent contact with children. It includes reading to children in a formal group setting, which may include an off-campus location.
