3 credit hours - Three hours weekly; one term. Introduction to spoken Japanese and to the Hiragana and Katakana systems of written Japanese. Emphasis will be on mastering the basic sound system, pitch patterns, levels of language and romanization system, as well as everyday vocabulary and elementary sentence patterns. Note: Not for native speakers.
