3 units 6 hours weekly Prerequisite: Completion of ART 130. Advisory: Eligibility for READ 099. Instructional materials fee required for this course and must be paid at registration. This course is designed to advance students' skills in hand-building techniques, the potter 's wheel, the technology of clay, glazing, and firing. Provides students with an understanding of the principles of art and elements of design from past and present cultures within the context of the ceramic art form. Develops students' design of functional wheel-thrown forms and study of ceramic materials for use in clay and glaze experimentation. Introduction to firing procedures. Students may have to purchase additional supplies not provided by the college. (CSU, UC, AVC) ( R3)
