(formerly Elementary Chinese) 5 units 5 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 101. This course is intended for students who have no background in Chinese language. Introduction to fundamentals of standard Chinese, including pronunciation, grammar, and Chinese characters with emphasis on basic skills of speaking, listening comprehension, reading, and writing within a lively, interactive, and stimulating classroom atmosphere.
