3 units 3 hours weekly Prerequisite: Completion of ENGL 101. An introduction to writing plays, emphasizing the creation of dramatic tension, motivated actions, three dimensional characters, and believable dialogue. The essential elements of dramatic structure are covered. The writer's individual voice is developed using exercises in the writing of scenes and a one act play. Class discussions emphasize the value of giving and receiving criticism as a basis for revising plays. The course culminates in a public presentation of selected scenes from student work, produced as a class project. (CSU, UC, AVC) ( R3)
