3.5 units (35 hours lecture, 62.5 hours clinic) (5 weeks) Limitation on Enrollment: Formal admission to ADN Program. Prerequisite: Completion of NS 102 and NS 103 or completion of NS 200 for transfer and LVN students. This course is based on Orem's Self-Care Theory as applied to the care of pediatric patients. The care of the pediatric patient is presented as it pertains to his/her developmental state, health maintenance restoration, prevention of complications, and prevention of health problems. The course provides child development theory, theory and clinical practice on the pathophysiology of major pediatric illnesses. The student learns pediatric self-care practices and nursing actions which promote health and well-being, provide a developmental environment for the patients' continued development and prevent harmful effects of either the illness or the health-state requirements for the illness. The student continues to improve his/her use of teaching/learning theory. (CSU, AVC)
