Prerequisite: Completion of NURS200 with grade of C or better. Corequisite: NURS208 Focuses on the childbearing and childrearing family and community. Includes the family's adaptation to the normal antepartal, intrapartal, and postpartal periods; continues with the growth and development of the child from conception through adolescence. Content includes the family's adaptation to the complications of pregnancy, the high-risk infant, and the child with special needs. Emphasis is upon the nursing process to meet the individual needs of the childbearing and childrearing families in both the community and the hospital. This course stresses application of the nursing process to help families prevent illness and/or regain health. Included in the classroom experience is an introduction to care of groups of patients in the community. Included in the clinical experience is a medical-surgical rotation introducing students to more independence when caring for small groups of adult patients. Offered in spring. (2001)
