Description:
Foundation skills and assessment techniques to care for an ill or injured person in the pre-hospital setting. Follows state regulations for EMT-1 training and leads to certification at the county level. Required for ambulance personnel and appropriate for many other first care providers such as law enforcement and fire personnel. The student must meet Allied Health Department health requirements to participate in the laboratory section of the course. Any expenses involved in meeting the health requirements are the student's expense. Must be at least 18 years of age by the end of class. Students who do not possess CPR will not be accepted into the class. Mandatory physical examination/immunizations will be required within two weeks of the beginning of the course and are at the student's expense. Failure to meet these requirements will result in student ineligibility for clinical objectives. Prerequisite: Students must have a copy of a current CPR (American Heart Association Health Care Provider) card. Recommended: MEDS B60 (3 units). Hours: 128 lect plus 24 ER/ambulance experience. Offered: F, S. Repeat: As necessary for state EMS regulations. CCS: Occupational Education. Not Transferable: Associate Degree only.
