Provides Registered Nursing students with an opportunity to obtain clinical experience in the application of all previously learned knowledge and skills in various clinical settings. Students will work in a collaborative role with clinical preceptors. This will allow students to practice more independently under the supervision of clinical agency personnel. This will increase the student's nursing judgment skills, critical thinking skills, and competency. The clinical experience in the externship will better prepare students as they assume the role of the professional graduate nurse. Prerequisite: Current enrollment, in good standing, in the ADN Program and completion of all 3rd semester courses; or completion of NURS B256, or evaluation by all 3rd semester instructors of student's nursing skills. Hours: 54-162 lab. Repeat: 2. CCS: Occupational Education. Offered: F, S. SS. Not Transferable: Associate Degree only. credit for previous education in nursing if they apply for admission to a professional nursing program.
