A study of United States literature from Pre-Colonial times through the 19th century, exploring recurrent themes and motifs in the works of both newly discovered and long-recognized authors. Emphasis on engaging student curiosity, eliciting student response, and fostering student development of critical analysis and interpretation through close reading of texts, class discussion, and formal and informal writing assignments. Prerequisite- Corequisite Prerequisite: ENG 110 College Writing I.
