3 units; 3 hours Lecture Recommended Preparation: Eligibility for ENGL 100 and READ 100. Examines contemporary social, cultural, economic, political, and environmental change in a global context. Focuses on the emergence of global economy, the globalization of culture, transnational migrations, technological and environmental changes, and global social movements. Explores debates over globalization and the sometimes violent political, ethnic and religious responses to what is perceived as cultural and economic homogenization on a global scale. Offered as both ANTHR 9 AND SOC 9. Student may enroll in either course for credit, but not both. Transfer Credit: Transfers to CSU. Transfers to UC.
