1-3 units; 1 hour Lecture Repeatability: May be taken a total of 2 times. Recommended Preparation: ECE 31 or ECE 131; ECE 53; eligibility for ENGL 100 and READ 100, when taught in English, or concurrent enrollment in ESL 201A or ESL 220A or higher ESL level, when taught in Spanish. Explores social knowledge as it manifests itself in young children's natural interests and in their emerging understanding of: self-concept; valuing diversity; interdependency of humans; cultures and the similarities and diversity of people everywhere. This class may explore curriculum themes such as: "food and cooking", "community workers", "families." May also be taught in Spanish as part of the Bilingual Spanish/English ECE teacher skills certificate.
