3 units; 3 hours Lecture Prerequisite: ECE 31 or ECE 131. Recommended Preparation: Eligibility for ENGL 100 and READ 100 when taught in English, or concurrent enrollment in ESL 201A or ESL 220A or higher ESL level when taught in Spanish. Studies the shaping power of family, peer groups, schools, culture, and socioeconomic class on children and youth. Examines internal functioning of family and society's impact on families. Meets core course requirement for Social Services Licensing, for the California Child Development Permit and for the School-Age Emphasis Permit. May also be taught in Spanish as part of the Bilingual Spanish/English ECE teacher skills certificate. Transfer Credit: Transfers to CSU. Transfers to UC, with limits: ECE 31, 32, 33 & PSYCH 8 combined: maximum credit-1 course.
