Description:
This course is designed as an orientation to hospital and home-based care, which leads to clinical competency in other areas of health care. This course exposes the student to a variety of hospital settings, assisting patients under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. As part of this course, the home care/hospice module leads to certification as a home health aid (CHHA) if the student so desires which broadens the student's skill base, credibility and competency level. A one-hour review is given within the course content to encourage students to take the certification exam. This course offers students the opportunity to become certified in basic life support, American Heart Association-C (AHA), required by hospitals. Medical terminology and hospital abbreviations are incorporated into the content to familiarize students with commonly used terms and phrases in the hospital setting. Students are responsible for test fees associated with the Certified Home Health Aid and American Heart Association exams (approximately $100.00) and for the required physical health exam and test for tuberculosis.
