In this course, students explore the aesthetic contributions of women artists from the Middle Ages to the modern era. Illustrated lectures deal with such topics as the life and work of key artists, ideas guiding their creations, as well as themes, styles, materials and techniques employed by individual artists. The course also deals with the difficulties that they have faced as women artists within a largely male-dominated field and the role women have played as collectors and as subjects of art. Prerequisite: ENL101 and (ART125 or ART126) / 3 credits.
