This first course introduces the student to the profession of dental hygiene, the dental hygiene code of ethics, principles of infection and exposure control, and the CDC Bloodborne Pathogens Standard. The dental hygiene process of care with an emphasis on the assessment phase is presented. Oral hard and soft deposits are discussed along with an introduction to safety and emergency procedures. Additionally, oral health education and oral physiotherapy techniques are introduced. Prerequisite: MAT030, ENL020 and ENL050 or satisfactory basic skills assessment score and CHM109 / 2 credits.
