Prerequisites: MBW 120, MBW 130 and MBW 131 r permissi n f the instruct r. BCC's missi n is t prepare students f r graduati n, transfer and careers; the Math Department's missi n is t help students gain quantitative literacy, understand mathematical ideas, and use them t excel in their future w rk. We supp rt degree pr grams f study, and students will find that the rig r and demands f the c urses ffered here are aligned with many f ur-year c lleges and universities. The Math Department ackn wledges the rec mmendati ns f pr fessi nal mathematical s cieties such as AMATYC, 100% Math, and the NCTM standards. BCC math c urses range fr m arithmetic thr ugh calculus and many are ffered in three f rmats: the traditi nal teacher-paced lecture f rmat, the self-paced MAT 800 f rmat thr ugh pre-calculus, r the nline MAT 800 f rmat. In the MAT 800 series, students advance at their wn rates and credits are earned individually. Self-m tivated students can m ve quickly thr ugh their math credits, while th se students wh have n t recently had math c urses r wh are lacking in c nfidence can m ve m re sl wly with the individualized faculty assistance needed t build s lid f undati ns f r l ng term success. There are n lectures in this setting. Instead, students w rk with their texts, c mputers, teachers, and tut rs, if desired, t learn the material. They decide when t take tests, and then are all wed t retest until they pass. Students may select MAT 800 f r ne r tw credits, and then may ch se t add m re nce these are c mpleted. Each student w rks with his r her teacher t plan the pace at which the credits sh uld be c mpleted.
