This course is a continuation of basic organic chemistry. Topics include nomenclature, structure and properties, reaction mechanisms of basic organic chemistry, biochemistry, and spectroscopy. (University Transfer) Entry Level Skills: A student should be able to use general chemistry concepts such as: acid/base, thermochemistry, intermolecular forces, structure/bonding, equilibria,kinetics, and stoichiometry. In addition, a student should be able to use basic organic chemistry concepts such as: structure/bonding, electron flow (resonance and mechanisms), nomenclature (alkane, alkene, alkyne, and aromatic), and reactions (alkane, alkene, alkyne, and aromatic). Other skills needed are mathematical concepts such as: exponential numbers, significant figures, metric (SI) conversions, logarithms, and basic algebra.
