The focus of this course is on the common chemical language used in general society today. Special emphasis will be placed on the basic chemistry of currently "hot topics" such as the depletion of the ozone layer and alternative energy sources. Topics such as food chemistry, agricultural chemistry, and the chemistry of household products will be also addressed. Chemical concepts including stoichiometry, atomic structure, acid-base chemistry and basic organic chemistry will be integrated throughout the course.
