We will focus primarily on the First and Second World Wars, exploring the specific pressures war puts on novels and poetry, as well as on history, psychology, and ethics. Works by Sassoon, Owen, Hemingway, Woolf, Rebecca West, Graham Greene, Pat Barker, Tim O'Brien, Georges Perec.
