Description:

This seminar reviews the theoretical literatures on diaspora and transnationalism. We then place Asian migrations to the Americas (North America, Hawaii, the West Indies, Central and Latin America) in the context of migrations out of and within Asia in the 19th and 20th centuries. Finally, we consider transnationalism as an analytical framework for understanding the process of Asian-American community formation.
