Painting has changed drastically throughout the ages with its greatest leap occurring with the advent of photography. The original goal of many painters was to represent the world around them, but once the camera was introduced, artists began to experiment. This class will examine painting styles from the mid 1800s to the present. The goal is to try as many different approaches as possible to expand your painting vocabulary, use of tools, and to free yourself from preconceived notions about what painting is or is not. You will be encouraged to discover the link between painting media, your imagination, intuition, contemporary philosophy and personal experience. Experimentation, invention, process and a variety of materials, approaches and tools will be emphasized.
