Conservation Medicine is an emerging, interdisciplinary field that studies the relationship between human health, wildlife disease, and environmental conditions. In this first-year seminar we will explore the links between changes to the environment, including exotic species invasions, land-use, and climate change, and the emergence of infectious diseases in humans and wildlife. We will assess the implications of emerging infectious disease and the tools used to prevent them. We will survey contemporary issues in conservation medicine through case studies of emerging infectious diseases linked to environmental change. Enrollment limited to 20 first year students.
