These special topics courses cover the basics of modern NMR spectroscopy. Topics to be included are as follows: modern Fourier transform methodology, modern NMR instrumentation, and a comprehensive discussion of one and two dimensional experiments that are routinely performed. Topics such as coherence transfer and pulsed field gradients will also be included. Experimental methods covered in detail include COSY, TOCSY, HSQC, HMBC, NOSEY, ROSEY, EXSY and DOSY methodology. This course will not focus on structure determination or spectral interpretation but rather on experimental methodology. One course credit may be earned by successful completion of two lecture units in one semester or over two semesters. Evaluation is based primarily on literature research papers in the areas of the units completed. May be repeated once for credit.
