This course is a survey of Latin American history and culture. The course examines the historical origins and development of Latin American society. Coverage includes pre-Columbian cultures, contrasting approaches to colonization in Spanish and Portuguese America, economic structures, race, post-independence political development, neocolonialism, dependency on outside powers, the influence of Marxism, and relations with the United States. Lecture/Lab Hours: Three hours per week.
