This is a study of American literature from the mid-nineteenth century to the present. Special emphasis will be placed on understanding the historical and cultural context behind the texts examined. Required is an end-of-semester research project on an appropriate topic. This course is for the superior student, and admission is by invitation of the Honors Program. Lecture/Lab Hours: Three hours per week.
