Description:
This is a study of functional group derivatives of hydrocarbon compounds such as alcohols, ethers, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, and their amines and amides. The reactions, synthesis, and spectrophotometric identification of organic compounds will be emphasized. Special topics such as heterocyclic compounds, orbital symmetry, and biomolecules will be explored. Microscale technique will be used in the laboratory. Lecture/Lab Hours: Three hours lecture and three hours laboratory per week.
