Fundamental chemical principles with emphasis on physical and chemical properties, stoichiometry, chemical reaction types, kinetic molecular theory, thermochemistry, modern atomic theory and atomic structure, chemical bonding and bonding theory, and molecular shapes . Laboratory parallels lecture topics and also includes chemical nomenclature, basic chemical equations, stoichiometry, unknown analysis, and fundamentals of oxidation and reduction. Prerequisites: Satisfactory score (22) on the chemistry placement test or CHEM 25. Satisfactory score on the mathematics placement test or MATH 104 or 105. Advisory: ENGL 100 or ESL 25. Three hours lecture, two hours lecture-laboratory, four hours laboratory. GE Area: Natural Sciences
