Beginning with the participation of black women in the abolition movement and ranging forward to current black women novelists and feminist theorists, this course will examine the intellectual development of black feminism. We will pay particular attention to black feminism as an area of critical study, and will explore the concepts of representation, ideology, discourse, race, gender, and sexuality.
