Overview of all major categories and characteristics of disabilities. Physical, Sensory, Developmental and Learning Disabilities discussed. Cultural/experiential aspects of disabilities from the perspectives of disabled individuals explored through readings and guest speakers. Contrasts disabled with non-disabled culture including cross-cultural perspectives of the disabled experience. Emphasis placed on recognition of strengths and abilities to provide strategies for instruction and accommodations. Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 1A. Four hours lecture. GE Area: Non-GE Applicable
