This course is designed for both science and nonscience majors interested in understanding the distribution and spread of infectious diseases. Emphasis is on the role that specific environments play in determining where and when epidemics will occur. Topics include the biology and ecology of microorganisms and their hosts, geographic medicine, the impact of human activity on the incidence and transmission of infectious diseases, and epidemics in human history.
