(3.0 Units) (No prerequisite. May be taken as Biology 251 or Psychology 251. Credit will be awarded for only one course. Three lecture hours weekly.) This class explores the basic brain processes underlying the functioning of the human mind. Among the topics to be discussed are basic synaptic functioning, psychopharmacology, stress and the immune system, learning and memory, sleep, mood disorders, schizophrenia, language, motor and sensory systems, sexuality, consciousness, endocrine function and interactions.
