(8.0 Units) (Prerequisite: Ability to type 30 words-a-minute. Five lecture and nine laboratory [four unsupervised] hours weekly.) The student will study the theory and operation of the stenotype machine. This course is designed to develop knowledge of stenotype theory, machine dexterity, fluent reading of stenotype notes, and the ability to take dictation between 60 and 80 wam for three minutes with better than 98% accuracy. Students will arrange for the rental or purchase of a stenotype machine at the student's expense prior to the first class meeting. Can also be offered in a distance learning format. (CSU)
