(1.0 Unit) (Prerequisites: Eligibility for English 98 or 98SL; Dental Assisting 176 may be taken concurrently. Corequisite: Dental Assisting 180. Three laboratory hours weekly.) Under the direct supervision of an instructor, students will prepare the dental operatory, prepare the pre set tray, and identify hand and rotary instruments for given procedures. In addition, students will demonstrate the application of rubber dams, matrix retainers, topical anesthetic, and provisional restorations as allowed and listed in the California State Practice Act for dental assistants and registered dental assistants. The student will also demonstrate knowledge of the assistant's role in amalgam, composite, and endodontic procedures. (CSU)
