This course offers a chronological survey of narrative film as art, business, technology, and politics from 1950 to the present. Periods and movements covered will include the American Studio Period, 1950s Film Noir and subversive movements, Italian Neorealism, French Nouvelle Vague, National Cinemas of Sweden, England, Czech Golden Age, Poland, Hungary, Japan, India, China, Iran, The New German Film, Third World Cinemas; Australia, the Hollywood Renaissance of the 1960s and 1970s, Dogma 95, and independent film movements.
