(0.5 Unit) (No prerequisite. Corequisite: Nursing Education 140. Two laboratory hours weekly for twelve weeks.) This course provides opportunities for first-year registered nursing students (Level II) to learn and practice intermediate assessment and technical skills fundamental to professional nursing across the lifespan in the safety of a simulated clinical environment. Instruction includes presentation of evidence-based practice and scientific rationales for performance of technical skills, skill demonstrations, and the opportunity for guided/supervised student practice. In addition to the achievement of technical skill competency, emphasis is placed on integrating the use of the nursing process, communication and documentation skills, client care management skills, and critical thinking and problem solving skills through the use of clinical simulations and case scenarios.
