(5.0 Units) (Prerequisites: Physics 207A, and Math 223 or concurrent enrollment. Four lecture and three laboratory hours weekly.) This course develops the concepts and laws describing four different but related topics. The major ideas include the first and second laws of thermodynamics, kinetic theory of gases, interference and diffraction of light and sound waves, optical instruments, atomic structure of matter, nuclear physics, and a brief introduction to quantum theory.
