(3.0 Units) (No prerequisite. Advisory: Competence in written language skills comparable to eligibility for English 150. Students may receive credit for this course as Economics 125, Ethnic Studies 125, History 125, Political Science 125 or Social Science 125. Credit will be awarded for only one discipline. Three lecture hours weekly.) This course focuses on the elements of critical thinking and methods of research in the social sciences and develops skills required to organize such thought and research into effective, college level presentations. Various social science faculty members will offer their expertise to students on an individual basis as they develop their presentations. Students are encouraged to select areas of research from other courses taken during the semester or from areas of special interest including politics, history, economics, education, women's studies, ethnic studies, current issues, and issues of community concern.
